[edit] Monaco and homepage layout

Hi Hima,

I recently posted some notes regarding the Monaco skin and the homepage layout to Talk:Main Page. I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at it and let me know what you think.

Hi Kyle. We've discussed this matter internally in the Freeciv maintainer group and come to the following conclusion: The Freeciv website has used with MonoBook layout since 2004 and is an important part of our visual identity, so we'd like special permission to continue using it. Thank you for understanding.

As for main page layout changes, I will find a way to modify it when the new ads have been introduced. Thanks for the example. --Hima 08:55, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

I've had a look at the custom Monaco skin now and tweaked it a little bit. It looks acceptable now and I have made it default wiki skin.

However, I have been unable to create a decent main page layout using the mainpage column tags. The Freeciv main page has a concept that relies on only one column with equally sized boxes. The specialized column tags breaks this completely. Instead, I would like to transcode the ad as a float to the top right with the content boxes wrapping around it. I think I will go with the 'fake' two-column layout for now. A true two-column layout will require a rethinking of the main page. --Hima 13:10, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Now there are two ad boxen at the top of the page - one above stretching over the two columns plus the newly transcoded one. Is this intentional? --Hima 23:41, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
