From Freeciv

I'm a computer programmer from Texas. I'm a deluxe geek, but you probably wouldn't know it until after being around me when I'm socially comfortable, because I don't fit the stereotype. I recently switched my Acer 3260 laptop to Ubuntu Linux; unfortunately, this tore some Acer hardware drivers apart so not everything works correctly.

I bought Civilization II back in the late '90s. Sometime in the next ten years, I decided that I wanted to play against others, so I bought Multiplayer Gold Edition off eBay and found, to my dismay, that the only MGE community I knew of (from the box), the one at Zone.com, was floundering. Soon after that, Zone.com itself was dissolved into cyber rubble (as in, it appears to be a site but is broken down and vacant).

Over the years, I began to Google Civ2-related searches, and often found myself at the CivFanatics site. This year, I became a member and (thanks to Peaster) began to improve my game - from Prince/"Very Easy" level. I also joined its "cousin" Apolyton (although I never posted) and noticed mention of Freeciv on one of them (but I can't recall which).

So I joined this wiki and the community, and abandoned those. I'm sure I will also abandon this one soon, as my interest wanders from one topic to another (and my free time follows close behind). I hope to enjoy my time while I'm here, though, so maybe I'll see you around.
