Talk:NEWS-2.1.4

Hi, I just downloaded and installed 2.1.4, Windows version, and I regret to say that Win95 seems no longer to be supported. I will clarify that; the Server part of FreeCiv appears to work, the Client died upon execution. (My desire was to run a simple stand-alone game with some computer opponents.) If that non-support was intentional, then OK. If not, then this is the first error to fix:

When attempting to run the Client, a message box appears, titled "Error Starting Program". In the box is the text "The LIBGLIB-2.0-0.DLL file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:IsDebuggerPresent"

I opened up Kernel32.DLL with an appropriate tool, and searched it. There is no function inside that .DLL with the name "IsDebuggerPresent"
Not in Win95, anyway.

I will say that another intent I had, in installing the game was to see if another issue had been resolved. That issue is described here:

Possibly that should be two issues, since it mentions trying an SDL client that also crashed.

Thanks!

Having searched the site more, I have since discovered that the version I downloaded was marked (NOT on the main page, though) for more advanced versions of Windows such as Win2000 and WinXP. Of course it couldn't be expected to work on Win95. If only the main page had been more specific!

So I downloaded and installed the SDL version which is supposed to work on Win95. It does! Thank you! Thank you!
