Currently 363 out of a total of about 372. If anyone sees value in having more categorized, maybe a list of suitable categories could be drawn up for some volunteer to execute. Examples could be Category:Classic images, Category:Unit images, Category:Screenshots, or Category:Freeciv 2.0 images. Any image could be in two or more categories.

An advantage of having them categorized is that you can see a bunch of them displayed automatically. See Category:GPL files for an example.
