Despite having other things I should have been doing here at home, I downloaded the Windows version of Freeciv 2.0.9 on Tuesday night. Since then I've spent more than 24 hours playing it.

Its developers deserve warmest congratulations. The most professional-looking "amateur" production I've seen in a long time.

An apparent newcomer has added a link to a site that seems to collect fans of various games. Its latest news item starts like this:

Advert Contest!
Freeciv is slowly dieing... We need to advertise it so we can get more people to be convinced to play it.
