Forum:GPL licensed wiki
From Freeciv
Forums: Index > Watercooler > GPL licensed wiki
When I edit a page the text below the edit box says that all content contributed to the Freeciv wiki "are considered to be released under the GNU General Public License", I do believe that it is wikia policy that all wikis use the GFDL or a pre-approved Creative Commons license, unless given a special exception from Wikia. - We got this special exception, since we migrated a wiki licensed under the GPL here. See Freeciv:Copyrights. --Hima 22:55, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- It says that I cannot copy text from Wikipedia, then what is Template:Wikipedia for? I have copied some text from Wikipedia with Template:Wikipedia, will you have to delete those contributions? Why GNU GPL v2? Tcrow777 01:22, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know the legal details. Let's just not copy anything more directly from the 'pedia. --Hima 11:55, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, and the reason we use GPL2 is because Freeciv's code and its contents are under this license, making it simple to reuse code and images here on the wiki. --Hima 11:56, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
