I loaded Freeciv 2.8 on Fedora 10 (along with its dependencies). The client starts up OK, but after the 1st or 2nd turn, it goes back to the main screen with the message "Lost connection to server!" at the bottom. Any ideas?

It's occurred both with me selecting a nation (Irish) or with random nations set. It occurs whether or not AI troops are involved, but I have not been able to test multiplayer functionality as I was hoping to stick to the single player. THe error message is always the same: 'loosed connection to server'. I likewise use the 2.1.8 rpm from the fedora despositories. I have the Freeciv server file but launching it seems to have no discernable effect. Any ideas? I tried the windows recommendation of changing my player name to omit numbers but no go as well.

I have the same problem too. Version 2.1.8, Fedora10, GNOME. I click "Turn Done" (or shift + Enter) and the game window closes. Sometimes it lasts until the second turn. No option I change matters. Also, the window doesn't fit the screen, and I can't resize it, and the full screen doesn't help, but it's not that important, just annoying. Maybe the problem is just in the rpm package. Or, since it doesn't fit the screen, it could be something to do with GNOME. Mamangava 17:56, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
